How to Lock Folders on Windows 7

Step 2

 

After choosing a strong and reliable password you can select proper security strength for your folders according to the wizard. There are three levels of security strength at your choice: "Normal", "High", "Highest".

 

"Normal" is suitable for encrypt files or folders with a large size and under this security strength encryption will be process in the fastest speed.

 

"High" means it will protect your folders with strong security strength, and it encrypts folders in a fast speed.

 

"Highest" is designed for encrypting those folders or files with a comparably small size, yet the content is rather confidential. The encrypting speed will be slower while files under protection will have little chance to be lost or broken into.

 

Step 3

 

Here comes an option for you to of choose a display mode for those locked folders or files. "Local" means the password protected folders or files will be displayed in the local directory and anyone who access to the computer can see the folders, yet the folder or file image will be turned into an image with a lock marked on it which make it distinctive from an unlocked file or folder. "Hidden" refers to the encrypted folders or files will be hidden in the local directory and only the administrator can access to it in the main window of the Advanced Folder Encryption. Moving your mouse pointer to the file or folder that you want to change a password, then right clicking it and navigating to the "Change Password" menu.

 

Now all you need do is input your old password in the box and enter the new password and confirm the ne password again. Then the changed password will take effect by your clicking on the "OK" button on the bottom of the interface.

 

Attention: The new password is a good password if it is easy to remember and hard to guess. In case some bad guys may try your password out you'd better select a password with both number and letter. A strong password will protect your folder and file and give you a sense of inner peace.

How to set a password for the running of the application?

 

Keeping all confidential files and folders under the protection of Advanced Folder Encryption may not enough for you if you are person with restrict standard for file security, so you'd better set a password for the running of the application and block the possibility of misuse of the data when someone open your file or folder by running the program.

 

If you wish to change password for the running of the application, operating the program and you can see a list of buttons on the main window. Clicking on the "Settings" option and then navigate to "Security" and choose "running the application requires a password", next in the new window entering your password for running the application and then re-enter it. During this process your password strength will be evaluated automatically which allows you to adjust your password in time. After putting in the password you need to click on "OK" button to save the change.
